Digitalising your dive centre: the 6 steps (and the mistakes that cost money)

Digitalising a centre isn't "having Instagram and a form". It's bookings coming in on their own, data living in a system and admin hours going down. This is the right sequence, in the right order — and the four mistakes we see repeated across the sector.

Step 1 · Your own domain and website (not a rented profile)

It all starts with an asset that's yours: your domain and your website. Instagram attracts, but it doesn't rank on Google or take bookings; a third-party portal lists you, but it keeps the relationship (and the SEO). The website must load fast, be technically well structured and have a page for everything you sell: try dives, dives, courses, trips. If you already have a website, you don't need to throw it away: the system can be built on top of it, keeping your domain and identity.

Step 2 · A well-worked Google Business Profile

When someone searches "try dive + your town", the Google map is the first screen. A complete listing (category, opening hours, photos, services), a steady flow of reviews, all answered, and total consistency between the name, address and phone on the listing and on your website. We cover it in depth in the guide to local SEO for dive centres.

Step 3 · Real online bookings

The real leap of digitalisation: the customer books and pays on their own, at any hour, with real-time boat capacity, configurable deposits and a waiting list. A contact form isn't online booking; it's one more email to process. We compare the options (notebook, generic tool, commission-based portal, vertical software) in how to manage a dive centre's bookings.

Step 4 · The diver record: your database

Every customer who comes through the centre should leave a complete record: contact details, certification, insurance, medical statement, sizes, history. That database is the difference between "having customers" and "having a business": it tells you who to offer the next course to, warns you about expiries and fills in the manifest on its own. The key is that the diver fills it in themselves (self-registration), not you. That's how DEKKO's CRM for dive centres works.

Step 5 · Out-of-hours service

30-40% of enquiries arrive at night or at the weekend, just when you're on the boat or at home. A WhatsApp bot that answers and guides — resolves questions and takes the customer to sign up and book on their own — captures that volume without hiring more staff. What a well-built bot really does (and doesn't), in WhatsApp bot for dive centres.

Step 6 · Measure every month

Without numbers there's no management: bookings per channel, occupancy per dive, revenue vs last year, new reviews. A monthly report with three concrete actions turns digitalisation into decisions. If your system doesn't give it to you, you end up doing it yourself in Excel on a Sunday — or you don't do it at all.

The 4 mistakes that cost money

The shortcut: the 6 steps in a single system

DEKKO packages the whole sequence — an optimised website on your domain, 24/7 booking, diver record and branded app, WhatsApp bot and monthly AI report — for €199/month all included, 0% commission and your system live in 48 hours, with no setup fee and first month free, no lock-in. You can compare this approach with the alternatives in the 2026 dive centre software comparison.
